The annual seminar of the SGPW-SSA working group plant breeding (Current Challenges in Plant Breeding) will take place on 22.1.2025 at ETH Zurich (Center) on the topic "Bandwagons, we too, have seen - promises and breakthroughs in plant breeding". As every year, students and doctoral students of ETH Agricultural Sciences will present and discuss their views on the topic together with national and international experts. The opening keynote will be given by Rex Bernardo (University of Minnesota), who, as a long-standing professor of plant breeding and genetics, has dealt intensively with the promises and achievements of new breeding technologies.

Members wanted for the Board of the Platform Biology
From January 2025, there will be vacancies on the Board of the Platform Biology of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). We are looking fo new colleagues who would like to work with us for three years on issues and initiatives to promote the biological sciences and young talents in Switzerland.

Julia Reisenbauer (Chemistry), Jonathan Gruber (Mathematics), Gabriel Jorgewich-Cohen (Biology) and Gilles Antoniazza (Geosciences) were honoured with the Prix Schläfli 2024 for findings made in the context of their dissertations. Through this prize, the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) singles out the four most significant insights of young researchers at Swiss universities. The Prix Schläfli has been awarded since 1866.
