Member wanted for the Board of the Platform Biology

From January 2025, there will be a vacancy on the Board of the Platform Biology of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). We are looking for a new colleague who would like to work with us for three years on issues and initiatives to promote the biological sciences and young talents in Switzerland.

The Board of the Platform Biology brings together 8-9 active researchers working in various fields of biology at Swiss universities and research institutions. They represent the interests of the member societies and working groups of the Platform and are each elected for three years (max. three periods). The honorary Board is supported by a Secretariat, which is responsible for the implementation of the Platform's activities.

The members make strategic decisions, accompany initiatives of the Platform and introduce important topics in the field of biology and science in general. To this end, they regularly exchange ideas and meet at four meetings per year (three half-days in Bern and 1.5 days of external retreat). In addition, they get involved in individual initiatives or projects of the Platform - depending on their interest and time.

For 2025-2027 we are looking for a motivated and committed scientist who is interested in interdisciplinary topics and finds the dialogue within science, but also with society, exciting. The prerequisite is employment at a Swiss science-driven organisation (university, university of applied sciences, museum, institution) for the duration of the engagement. The disciplinary orientation is ideally complementary to the expertise of the current members. In particular, we would welcome a colleague from the plant sciences.

We communicate in three languages (D/F/E) - as needed.

Further details can be found on the website of the Platform Biology.

If you feel addressed and would like to become part of a large biology network in Switzerland with opportunities to shape the platform, please send us a short letter of motivation (max. 2 pages) and your CV (max. 2 pages) - if possible in English - by 30 September 2024 to the following address: biologie@scnat.ch.

In October, the two co-presidents and the head of the Platform Biology will invite people from the received expressions of interest to an informal interview (friendly chat).

If you have any questions, please contact Claudia Rutte.
